Brazil and Argentina of collectively command\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/04\/20\/business\/tariffs-china-us-farmers.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">52% the global soybean trade<\/a>, with Brazil alone accounting for 40%. Argentina recently signed a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.graincentral.com\/markets\/argentina-china-secure-key-commodities-agreement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$900 million non-binding agreement<\/a>\u00a0with China for soybeans, corn, and vegetable oil shipments.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5>Trade Dynamics and Market Share Shifts<\/h5>\n<p>A\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/2025\/05\/13\/trump-trade-wars-china-soybeans-farmers\/af16554c-3017-11f0-8498-1f8214bba2d2_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">90-day U.S.-China trade truce<\/a>\u00a0reduced tariffs from 125% to 10% on Chinese duties for U.S. goods, but structural pressures remain. Even with substantial tariff cuts, U.S. soybean exports are weakening in competitiveness relative to South American exports. Still, U.S. exporters benefit from better overall logistics infrastructure than South American exporters. China imported just 6.08 million metric tons of soybeans in April\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/commodities\/chinas-april-soybean-imports-hit-decade-low-customs-delays-disrupt-trade-2025-05-09\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a 29.1% year-over-year drop<\/a>, the lowest monthly total since 2015\u2014due to customs delays and late Brazilian shipments, which also drove January\u2013April imports down 14.6% to 23.19 million tons. These disruptions led to longer delivery times to crushers, from 7\u201310 days to 20\u201325 days, forced shutdowns at several northern plants, and tight soymeal supplies.
